Repent and be Baptised

That's exactly what Joshua and Andrea did last night at church. We are the classic "born and raised in a Christian home" family. Quite a few weeks ago, there was a baptism service at church and both kids came up to be at separate times telling me that they wanted to do that. We spoke to the children's pastor and arranged to attend a class. At home, we talked to Joshua and Andrea asking them if they understood what it was all about and it seemed very clear that they knew what they were doing. They each wrote out their testimonies (ok, they dictated, and I wrote) and the weeks went on. It was wonderful to see the immediate change in each child even before last night. Simply committing to following Jesus in obedience had affected their actions and behaviours. Initially, each child wanted Doug and I to be in the water with them but after some discussion and having them understand that this was THEIR deal, we all agreed that they would do it alone.

Romans 6:3-4: Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

I am so happy that my children took this step last night. It must mean I am doing something right. So often I wonder if I am parenting well and if my kids are able to make such a wonderful, life changing decision on their own, I must be doing a good job so far.
